Know Your Voting Rights

For our elections to work for all of us, every voter must have our voice heard and our vote counted. Know your voting rights. Make a plan and vote on or before November 8. By joining together as voters, we will deliver fair and accessible elections where every vote counts, no exceptions.

Important Dates

  • November 7: If you’re registered to vote where you live, you can vote absentee, in person at your city or township clerk’s office until 4 p.m. on November 7, after that, you must vote at your polling location on Election Day.

  • November 8: Election Day! The polls are open 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. local time; if you need to register, you can register and then vote at your city or township clerk’s office until 8 p.m.

Options for Registering to Vote

If you still need to register to vote (or to update your registration) for the November 8 general election, you must do so in person at your city or township clerk’s office, and provide proof of residency, by 8 p.m. on Election Day. You may register to vote AND vote at the same time.

Options for Voting from Home / Voting an Absentee Ballot

  • If you already have your absentee ballot, DO NOT MAIL YOUR BALLOT! To ensure that your ballot arrives in time to be counted, return your absentee ballot to your city or township clerk’s office, satellite office or a secure ballot drop box provided by your clerk. Remember: your ballot must be received by your city or township clerk by 8 p.m. on Election Day in order to be counted.

  • If you would like to vote before Election Day in the November 8 general election and have not yet requested a ballot, we recommend visiting your city or township clerk’s office or satellite office and voting absentee in person. You can vote in person before Election Day in three easy steps:
    1. Go to your city or township clerk’s office
    2. Complete an application for an absentee ballot and submit it to the staff
    3. Complete your ballot, place it in the envelope provided, sign the outside of the envelope with your official signature, and submit it to the staff

Remember: If you’re registered to vote where you live, you can vote absentee, in person at your city or township clerk’s office until 4 p.m. on November 7, after that, you must vote at your polling location on Election Day.
